ULLADULLA HIGH SCHOOL
Ulladulla High School is a large rural coastal secondary school, set amongst the trees, along a creek line adjacent to the central business district. It has permanent accommodation for 850 students with planning in place to expand these permanent facilities in 2006-2009. Students come to Ulladulla High from Bawley Point in the South to Manyana in the North. The next nearest public high schools are Bateman’s Bay and Vincentia High Schools. Students from Milton Public School, Ulladulla Public School and St Mary’s Primary School supply the majority of incoming Year 7 students. Students traditionally move to the area each year causing the student population to continue to grow. Planning for 2006-8 caters for 1250 to 1300 students and 87-95 teachers, 6-8 teacher’s aides and 14-18 administrative staff. The school includes a special education unit for students with intellectual, behavioural and emotional challenges.
Quality teaching and learning is a strong feature of the school. Teachers are working within the Quality Teaching in NSW Public Schools frameworks to expand their knowledge and further develop their craftsmanship. Beginning teachers and teachers aspiring to leadership positions meet regularly out of school hours. Quality teacher learning translates into improved outcomes for students.
Student development is supported by a focus on ‘middle school’ and a focus on ‘senior school’ together with a broad range of extracurricular experiences. These include academic programs such as ‘Permission to Shine’ and ‘SNAP Attack’, focus on learning programs in Years 7,9 and 11, performance opportunities through ‘Southern Stars’, ‘Exposure’, school productions and assemblies, competitions including Westpac and NSW Uni, Tournament of the Minds and UNU Science Challenge. Student leadership is fostered through active student representative and student environment councils.
A strong student welfare ethos underpins the quality of the teaching and learning at Ulladulla High. Each teacher takes responsibility for a roll class or a year group. Strong welfare programs support students at risk. All students are part of a widely accepted merit scheme.
The school community has an active P&C with community participation in many school teams. Along with students and staff parents contribute to uniform, finance, healthy school, Masterplan, GATs and canteen teams.
